Fire history

Why ember control is part of the job

The 2008 fire destroyed 113 homes and damaged 50 more in eastern Yorba Linda, and the 2020 Blue Ridge Fire damaged ten. A chimney is a direct opening between flames and a roof, so a missing or torn spark screen is a legitimate worry on any property near brush.

We do not assess a property's overall wildfire risk or insurance status. What we can do is check the cap, mesh, flue and crown, and replace a worn cap. Local fire authorities set the rules; ask the fire department about defensible space.

Property type

Larger lots, tall stacks, and equestrian streets

With over 100 miles of horse trails and many owner-occupied homes, Yorba Linda properties often have more roof, longer runs and awkward access. Roof pitch and approach get planned before the visit, which is why it helps to describe the setup when you call.

  • Owner-occupied (82.6%)
  • Roof access planned ahead
  • Tall stacks inspected carefully

How a visit works

Three steps from phone call to finished work

  1. 01

    Tell us what you see

Call or use the form. Smoke smells, water stains, loose brick or a missing cap are all useful details.

  2. 02

    A technician looks it over

The chimney, flue and fireplace are checked, and what you find is explained in plain terms before anything is decided.

  3. 03

    Choose the work

Sweeping, a small repair or a bigger rebuild: you pick the next step with the findings in hand.

Climate

Inland warmth and dry winds

Being inland, Yorba Linda lacks the coastal marine moisture of Newport Beach but still gets about thirteen and a half inches of precipitation, mostly in the cool months. Average January and July temperatures are about 55F and 71F.

That means chimney issues come mainly from sun and dryness: cracked sealants, brittle flashing, and mortar that crumbles. Wind-driven rain still finds those gaps during storms.

Do I need a spark arrestor on my chimney in Yorba Linda?

We have not verified a city-specific requirement and won't claim one. A cap with a mesh screen is a reasonable safeguard near brush, and your fire department or insurer can tell you what applies. We can inspect and replace caps.

My home was near the 2008 fire area. Should I inspect?

If heat, ash or debris reached your property, an inspection after any such event is wise. NFPA 211 also recommends an inspection after a chimney fire or other damage. Do this before using the fireplace.

Is a tall chimney more difficult to service?

It takes more care and planning. Roof pitch, height and access determine the equipment needed, so describe them. See chimney sweep for what cleaning includes.

What roof material do you work around?

Tile, shingle and flat roofs all need careful footing. Tell us what you have and any known roof damage. Chimney flashing repair on tile roofs is handled with attention to avoid broken tiles.
