Find the work your chimney needs
A routine sweep, a condition inspection and a repair address different concerns. Start with the symptom or service you need, then discuss the scope of the visit with the team.
Chimney sweeping
A sweep removes soot and other deposits from the chimney flue. Tell us how often you burn wood and when the chimney was last cleaned. An inspection can identify concerns that cleaning alone will not address.
Describe your fireplace or stove and ask what the sweep includes. If there is damage or a blockage, additional work may be needed.
Chimney inspections
An inspection helps establish the condition of the fireplace, venting and accessible chimney components. It is a useful starting point when you are unsure about a problem or do not have a service history. Describe any smoke, odors, leaks or previous recommendations when you book.
Ask which areas will be inspected and whether the visit includes any camera work. The required scope depends on the appliance and concern.
Chimney repair
Cracked masonry, water entry and a damaged chimney top need a repair matched to the cause. Liberty handles repairs to brickwork, crowns, caps and liners. Begin with the location of the symptom and what changed before it appeared.
Request an assessment of the affected area and an explanation of the proposed repair. Confirm which components are included in the work.
Chimney crown repair
The crown is the surface covering the top of a masonry chimney around the flue opening. Cracks or deterioration can allow water into the structure. Crown repair or replacement depends on the material and extent of the damage.
Ask whether the crown can be repaired or needs rebuilding, and how the surrounding masonry will be assessed.
Chimney cap installation
A correctly fitted cap covers the flue opening while allowing exhaust to leave the chimney. Missing, loose or corroded caps need attention. The cap should suit the chimney and its venting arrangement, rather than being selected by appearance alone.
Have the chimney top assessed before choosing a replacement. Tell us whether there are multiple flues or an existing cap.
Chimney liner repair & installation
The liner forms the passage through which combustion gases leave the appliance. A damaged liner or a change of appliance may require further assessment. Discuss the existing liner, appliance and previous inspection findings before deciding on repair or replacement.
Ask how the liner will be evaluated and which material and dimensions are appropriate for the system.
Chimney cleaning
Chimney cleaning addresses soot and deposits in the venting system. The condition of the flue and the appliance determine the work needed. If deposits keep falling into the fireplace, explain when they appear and when the chimney was last swept.
Discuss the fireplace type and access before the appointment. Ask which parts are included and whether inspection is also needed.
Chimney masonry repair
Brick and mortar can deteriorate at different rates. Masonry repair addresses damaged areas of the chimney structure, with the extent of work based on its condition. Share visible signs such as loose bricks, missing mortar or fragments falling around the chimney.
Keep clear of falling material and request an assessment. Ask whether the repair involves individual bricks, mortar joints or a larger section.
Chimney tuckpointing
Deteriorated mortar joints need attention before more of the brickwork loosens. Tuckpointing or repointing work renews affected joints using an approach suited to the masonry. Ask what will be removed and replaced, and which parts of the chimney are included.
Request an assessment of both the mortar and bricks. If the brickwork itself has failed, joint repairs alone may not be sufficient.
Chimney waterproofing
Waterproofing is considered after the source of water entry and the condition of the masonry have been checked. A treatment for suitable masonry has a different purpose from repairing a cracked crown, damaged cap or roof connection. Ask which problem the proposed work addresses.
Describe whether leaks follow rain, snow or fireplace use. Confirm whether repairs are needed before any surface treatment.
Chimney rebuilding
Extensive damage may require rebuilding part or all of a chimney above the roof. The decision depends on the structure and the extent of deterioration. Ask which section would be rebuilt and how the remaining chimney will be assessed.
Keep away from loose masonry. Discuss the proposed scope and any additional assessment needed before work starts.
Fireplace repair
A damaged firebox, loose masonry or a fireplace that is not operating as expected needs an assessment before further use. Tell Liberty whether the fireplace burns wood or gas and describe any previous repairs or changes to the appliance.
Stop using a damaged fireplace and explain the concern when booking. Ask what checks are needed for the appliance and its venting.
